BEST BRUNCH IN
LITTLE ITALY

Mexican brunch, breakfast burritos, Bloody Marys built strong. No 90-minute waits, no $22 avocado toast.

Little Italy has become one of San Diego's best brunch neighborhoods — walkable, lots of patios, real coffee, and the farmer's market on Saturday mornings. Here's where locals actually go.

1. Waterfront Bar & Grill — Mexican brunch on weekends

We open at 8am every day with a full breakfast menu, but the move is Saturday and Sunday: our weekend Mexican brunch — huevos rancheros, breakfast burritos, chilaquiles, and one of the best Bloody Marys in Little Italy, mixed in-house and poured stiff. No reservations, no 90-minute wait, no brunch-prix-fixe nonsense. Walk in, order at the bar, eat.

2. Other Little Italy brunch picks

For a more formal sit-down brunch, the Italian places on India Street (Buon Appetito, Bencotto, Davanti Enoteca) all do weekend brunch service. Expect a wait. For coffee + pastry, James Coffee and Pappalecco are the neighborhood standbys.

3. What we look for in a Little Italy brunch

  • No 90-minute waits. Brunch shouldn't be a planning exercise.
  • A real Bloody Mary. Mixed fresh, not from a bottle.
  • Breakfast burritos done right. Eggs, potatoes, cheese, salsa, properly wrapped.
  • Open early. If they don't start until 11am, that's lunch.
  • Walkable from the farmer's market.

Breakfast all day, every day

One thing that makes the Waterfront different: breakfast runs all day, every day, not just weekends. Need huevos rancheros at 4pm? Done. Breakfast burrito at midnight? Also done. The kitchen runs from 8am until last call.
