DOG FRIENDLY
LITTLE ITALY
Real patios. Water bowls. Dogs greeted by name. The 2026 list.
Little Italy is one of the most walkable, dog-friendly neighborhoods in San Diego — three blocks from Amici Park's dog run, five from Waterfront Park. But "dog-friendly" gets thrown around loosely. These are the spots that actually mean it.
1. Waterfront Bar & Grill
San Diego's oldest tavern (1933) and a top dog-friendly bar in Little Italy. Open garage-door corner, water bowls at the door, treats behind the bar. Breakfast burritos from 8am, full bar, daily happy hour 3–6pm. Bring the dog any day. See the dog-friendly page →
2. The patio cafés on India Street
India Street is the dog-walking spine of Little Italy. Most cafés along it keep water bowls out and let dogs sit at outdoor tables — especially the European-style spots between Cedar and Fir.
3. The Saturday Mercato
The Saturday morning farmer's market on Date Street is a leashed-dog parade. Not a restaurant, but the surrounding patios fill up with dogs and brunch crowds for hours after.
What "dog-friendly" should actually mean
- An outdoor seat your dog can actually fit under without tripping a server.
- A water bowl that arrives without asking.
- A host who says hi to the dog before they say hi to you.
- No "service dogs only" sign on the door.
