January Roundup: Cheers to Another Great Month at Waterfront!
June 11, 2026
Well, folks, January 2026 already sailed by like a Padres fastball, didn't it? Here at the Waterfront, San Diego's oldest bar, we kicked off the new year the only way we know how – with plenty of good grub, cold drinks, and genuine hospitality. From New Year's Eve revelry to countless laid-back breakfasts and bustling evenings, our corner of Little Italy was humming, and the stories we heard from ya'll made our whole team proud.
Turns out, plenty of you shared your January experiences online, and reading through those five-star shouts made us feel all warm and fuzzy, like a shot of that good whiskey on a chilly evening. It's truly a pleasure to be a steady beacon in this ever-changing city, a place where memories are made, and folks keep coming back, year after year, and often, decade after decade.
What Keeps Folks Comin' Back (Beyond the Charm)
We hear a lot about our atmosphere, and that's somethin' we've been cultivating since 1933. It's not just the vintage vibe, the European feel Mike G. pointed out, or the fact that we've been slingin' drinks longer than anyone else in town. It's the people too – the ones behind the bar and the ones pullin' up a stool. Violet R. summed it up perfectly, even five years after her first visit:
"Still my favorite bar experience 5 years later. The atmosphere and bar tenders were absolutely amazing. So lively and fun. We walked out of there sloshed." — Violet Roman
That's the spirit, Violet! We live for those lively, memorable nights, whether it’s a spontaneous airport walk-in or a planned New Year's Eve bash. Speaking of New Year's, Nadia F. was singin' praises for Kat and her best friend, callin' them the "life of the party" and "so quick!" That's our crew – always on their toes, makin' sure your glass is full and your spirits are high. And for those who prefer weekday chill, Dan A. noted that we're a "nice club only on weekdays is not crowded," which, let's be real, is a rare find in downtown San Diego. Whether you’re after a bustling weekend or a quiet escape, we’ve got a stool waitin' for ya.
The Food That's Stealin' the Show
Now, for those of you who've been regulars for years, maybe you've been so focused on our legendary drinks that the food side of the menu snuck up on you. Valeriy K. had an epiphany this January:
"I’ve been to this place so many times for a drink and never paid attention to their menu and now I regret because the food is so good. The Wab Burrito I ordered last time was out of this world." — Valeriy Katsnelson
We hear ya, Valeriy! Our W.A.B. (Wet Ass Burrito, if you're asking) is indeed a thing of beauty. But it's not just burritos gettin' all the love. Hilary G. enjoyed a "great breakfast" with "attentive and helpful staff." And Mike G., who initially came for a 394 IPA (a mighty fine choice, if we do say so ourselves!), ended up with his wife ordering a burger that he couldn't recall the name of, but definitely remembered was "phenomenal!!!" That's our classic Waterfront Burger, folks, a timeless masterpiece.
And let's not forget our world-famous sliders and our perfectly grilled burgers. They're not just bar food; they're an experience. We put just as much love into our grub as we do into pourin' a perfect pint. Check out our full food menu and find your next favorite.
A True Neighborhood Gem
What makes the Waterfront special isn't just the history or the grub; it's the feeling. It’s what Joseph C. called an "excellent atmosphere" with "very affordable" prices, shoutin' out Brian for being a great server. It’s the kind of place where staff like Logan, mentioned by Tony G., make you feel right at home with good food, good drinks, and good service. We pride ourselves on being a genuine neighborhood spot, a place where locals and out-of-towners alike can kick back and relax. We're a little bit vintage, a little bit European, and a whole lotta San Diego, making us one of the quintessential Little Italy bars.
Chris J. simply but effectively called us a "Cool bar, awesome staff" – and what more could you ask for? That's what we aim for, day in and day out. Our story goes way back, and it's built on these simple principles: great people, great food, and great times.
So, as we roll into February, we're lookin' forward to more of the same. Whether it's for breakfast, lunch, dinner, late-night bites, or just a few cold ones, we'll be here, ready to serve up the authentic San Diego experience you've come to expect.
