April at Waterfront: Sliders, Smiles & San Diego History
June 11, 2026
April Recap: Another Month of Good Times & Great Company
Well, folks, April 2026 has come and gone, and if there's one thing we learned, it's that some things never change around here – and we wouldn't have it any other way. The sun kept shining, the beer kept flowing, and our little corner of Little Italy stayed as lively as ever. We've been looking back at some of the kind words you all left us, and it truly warms our old-school, wood-paneled hearts to hear that we're still hitting the mark after all these years.
It’s not just about the food and drinks, though we know you all love those. It’s about the feeling, the atmosphere, the place where everyone – from the regulars who practically have a stool reserved to the folks just flying in – feels right at home. We've been pouring drinks and serving up grub since 1933, and it’s the stories you bring, and the ones you take with you, that keep this old joint humming.
What Locals & Visitors Are Raving About
You know, sometimes when you're the oldest bar in town, people expect a certain… crustiness. But we pride ourselves on being anything but. Sure, we’ve got history oozing from every plank, but we also believe in making everyone who walks through our doors feel like family. That's why shout-outs like this really stick with us:
"Greta place, local authentic and friendly for visitors. No show off, just pure joy and party" — Raúl Palacios Tamayo
That's the sweet spot right there. We don't do 'show off' – never have, never will. We're just us, a real San Diego staple, serving up honest-to-goodness hospitality. It’s the kind of vibe you can only get from a place that’s seen generations come and go, a place that remembers San Diego before it was all shiny high-rises. And for those just stepping off a plane, or rolling in after a long day, that genuine welcome makes all the difference. Chris DeCamp, who came straight here after landing, put it perfectly:
"…I was shocked at the hospitality of everyone working there. Bouncer, bartender (big shout out to Lauren!!), food runner/utility! Usually places like this don't care because they are iconic and they know you'll come anyway, but damn...this team is on point!!!" — Chris DeCamp
That right there is why we do what we do. Our team, from the bouncers keeping things smooth to the bartenders shaking up your favorite drinks (Lauren, you hear that?!), and our kitchen crew hustling, they're the real MVPs. We might be iconic, but we're never complacent. We believe every single person deserves a great experience, whether it's their first time or their thousandth. That commitment to service is a huge part of our story and it's what truly sets us apart from other Little Italy bars.
The Food That Keeps People Coming Back
Alright, let’s talk turkey… or rather, let's talk sliders. If there’s one thing that consistently gets mentioned, it’s our legendary sliders. We don't know what kind of magic Nate and Chris Scheithauer tasted in April, but they're not wrong.
"Divey and fun. Best sliders downtown." — Nate
No frills, just facts. Nate knows. Chris Scheithauer kept it equally succinct: "The sliders are really good." We couldn't agree more, fellas. Our sliders aren't just good; they're a San Diego institution. Packed with flavor, perfectly sized, and always hitting the spot, they're the ultimate companion to a cold beer or a stiff drink. And let’s not forget our full menu of food – from our famous burgers to our hearty breakfast plates that kick off every morning right. Javier Maya De la Peña got it just right: "Agradable para una cerveza y una hamburguesa" (Pleasant for a beer and a burger). Simplicity and satisfaction, that’s our motto.
Whether you’re craving a full happy hour spread or just need a late-night bite to keep the good times rolling, you know our kitchen is always open. Divey? Maybe a little. Fun? Absolutely. And our sliders? Definitely the best downtown – some might say, the best in all of San Diego. We even wrote a whole guide to the best sliders to prove it!
